Four Eco-Friendly Reasons to Love LUSH Even MORE
I’ve been a longtime LUSHie (since 2005?), and their ever growing line of colorfully fun (and often sparkly) hair, bath and body products always make me giddy. While I knew the company was cruelty-free and super vegan-friendly, I don’t think I had realized just how earth-friendly they are, too! A rep from LUSH recently reached out to me with a list of ways LUSH is working to reduce their environmental footprint, and I wanted to share it with you guys.
Four Eco-Friendly Reasons to Adore LUSH
Minimal Packaging
Did you know 38% of their products are packaging-free? Over the last five years, their shampoo bars alone have saved around 30 million plastic bottles from landfill.
Charity Pot Program
Since 2007, Lush has donated $17 million to 1400 organizations that help the environment, animals and people in need. With every purchase of Charity Pot Hand and Body Lotion ($27.95), they donate 100% of the price (minus the taxes) to small grassroots organizations working in the areas of environmental conservation, animal welfare and human rights. You end up with velvety, beautifully-scented skin AND you’re doing a world of good with every pot purchased—BOOM!
Recycling in Closed Loop
Not only are their black pots made from 100% recycled plastic, but when a customer brings back 5 clean, empty black pots to a shop, they recycle, remold and use them again. In exchange, customers get a free fresh face mask! Last year, 880,815 black pots were returned resulting 176,163 free fresh masks. Their plastic bottles and gift wraps are made of 100% recycled plastic, too.
Self-preserving Cosmetics
Synthetic preservatives are effective at what they do, but when they’re washed down our drains, they enter waterways where they accumulate and may have toxic effects over time. For this reason, LUSH’s inventors have been creating cosmetics for decades that don’t require synthetic preservatives. Over 65% of their products are self-preserving and don’t need synthetic preservatives. You can read more about that here!
As if you didn’t have enough reasons to already ♥ LUSH, right? What are some of your favorite LUSH products btw? I personally adore their Intergalactic and Sex bath bombs (heck, all of their bath bombs), shampoo bars, Chocolate Cupcake Face Mask, Popcorn lip scrub, R&B hair moisturizer, Veganese conditioner, their mascara… ha, realizing I have way too many favs to list them all here. 😉 xo
